SEZ BERLIN ABRISS SOFTWARE
In a software system with multiple aspects, a joinpoint can often be matched with. Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP) languages provide mechanisms to modularise concerns that affect several software components, by means of joinpoints, advice and aspect weaving. The principle of Separation of Concerns encourages developers to divide complex problems into simpler ones and solve them individually. also Fleischer in this volume), pragmatic features of discourse referents and properties of text organization become even more important for any account on information-structural phenomena in texts from historic corpora. It is also argued that since factors pertaining to prosody are almost inaccessible for this purpose (cf. Given the great amount of definitions and theoretical notions on these categories in current research, we propose a cumulative approach to their detection that relies on prototypical features proposed in the literature. to the problem of identifying information-structural categories like Topic and Focus in a text from the historic corpus of a language. Then we turn to the information-structural analysis of historical texts proper, i.e. We first address the question concerning the reliability of historical data for any investigation on syntax, a problem that is crucial for the study of Old High German. The problems that arise in taking such an attempt are divided into two main groups and discussed separately. In this paper we investigate how information-structural analysis can be made useful for the explanation of word order variation in texts from earlier stages of a language, illustrated on the basis of evidence from Old High German. On the whole, however, Otfrid’s language shows more regularity and con- sistency with regard to word order than is usually assumed. In detail, Otfrid’s language seems to represent an intermediate stage of language development, showing a combination of older and newer patterns. It seems useful to consider the V1-pattern as the basic order in main clauses from this, V2-order and V-late order in main clauses can be explained by the influence of information-structural factors. Otfrid, however, has more freedom in placing elements in front and after the respective elements at the left and the right border of the verbal frame structure. In addition, the rule of the early position of the finite verb and the late position of infinite verbal elements creates a “frame and field”-structure for sentences as is known for later periods of German. An outline of the elementary principles for the verb position first shows that Otfrid has the same differentiation between main clauses and subordi- nate clauses as later stages of German. This paper gives an overview on some central rules and factors that deter- mine word order in the OHG Gospel Harmony by Otfrid von Weissenburg.
